A THEATRE company production manager had an "astronomical" amount of alcohol in her system when she drove through Truro so erratically that numerous drivers reported her to the police, a court has heard. Police were called to an incident involving a man making animal noises at Newquay library this afternoon. At 3.45pm officers were called to Manor Road where they discovered a man making animal sounds outside the town's library, a representative form Devon and Cornwall Police said. The man was incoherent and officers suspected he may be under the influence of drink or drugs. Paramedics were also called to the scene.

An elderly man was detained by a member of the public this afternoon after he was seen driving the wrong way down a one way street. A representative from Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was seen driving erratically and in the wrong direction on a back road between Torpoint and Anthony. A member of the public stopped the man and called the police. It is thought the elderly driver may have suffered a medical episode while driving. An elderly woman was left trapped in her car following a two vehicle collision in Lanlivet this afternoon. The woman was in so much pain she could not move to get out of the vehicle, a representative from Devon and Cornwall Police said. The crash, which involved a white Fiat 500 and a white Vauxhall Astra, happened on a back road near Lanhydrock at around 4pm. Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene.
