SLEEPING outside in a car park and feeling cold on a January night a 32-year-old man stole a bottle of sherry valued at £5.99 from Sainsbury's to keep himself warm and help him to sleep, District Judge Neil Hodkinson heard at Truro Magistrates' Court.Peter Goodenough, of City Road, Truro, pleaded guilty to the theft on January 15.Alison May, for the prosecution, said staff watched Goodenough on CCTV in the store and saw him pick up the bottle.
